SIFs After One Year: What AMFI's Data Shows
Assets are up about nineteenfold, hybrid strategies hold 69% of the money, and investors kept putting money in during a month when the Nifty fell 6%. Every number below comes from AMFI's own SIF reports and monthly notes.
📊 Direct Answer
According to AMFI, SIFs held ₹38,286.94 crore across 34 schemes and 1,56,483 folios on 30 September 2026, up from ₹2,010.44 crore across 4 schemes in October 2025. Hybrid strategies account for about 69% of assets, equity-oriented strategies about 31%, and no debt-oriented SIF has launched. Net inflows were ₹7,578 crore in September, a month in which the Nifty 50 TRI fell 6.0%, so flows did not dry up in the sell-off. AMFI does not publish scheme returns in these reports, so performance has to be checked scheme by scheme from NAVs.
In this guide:
One Year of Growth, Month by Month
SEBI introduced the SIF category in April 2025 and AMFI's first SIF report covers October 2025, when four schemes were live. Net assets (NAUM) and net inflows since then, from AMFI's SIF monthly reports and monthly notes:
| Month-end | Net assets | Net inflow in month |
|---|---|---|
| Oct 2025 | ₹2,010 Cr | ₹2,005 Cr |
| Jun 2026 | ₹17,858 Cr | ₹3,782 Cr |
| Jul 2026 | ₹23,177 Cr | ₹4,922 Cr |
| Aug 2026 | ₹31,175 Cr | ₹7,699 Cr |
| Sep 2026 | ₹38,287 Cr | ₹7,578 Cr |
Source: AMFI SIF monthly reports (October 2025, September 2026) and AMFI monthly notes (July, August, September 2026). Months between October 2025 and June 2026 are omitted for brevity. Figures rounded to the nearest crore.
Folios grew from 10,212 to 1,56,483 over the same period, about fifteenfold. Assets more than doubled between June and September alone. A large share of that growth is new money rather than returns: in September, net inflows of ₹7,578 crore exceeded the whole month's rise in assets.
Where the Money Sits: Strategy Mix
AMFI breaks SIF assets down by the SEBI strategy categories. As on 30 September 2026:
| Strategy | Schemes | Folios | Net assets | Share | Sept net inflow |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hybrid Long-Short | 11 | 58,178 | ₹23,957 Cr | 62.6% | ₹4,486 Cr |
| Equity Ex-Top 100 Long-Short | 7 | 53,942 | ₹7,595 Cr | 19.8% | ₹1,492 Cr |
| Equity Long-Short | 12 | 29,856 | ₹4,216 Cr | 11.0% | ₹895 Cr |
| Active Asset Allocator Long-Short | 3 | 13,519 | ₹2,456 Cr | 6.4% | ₹688 Cr |
| Sector Rotation Long-Short | 1 | 988 | ₹62 Cr | 0.2% | ₹16 Cr |
| Total | 34 | 1,56,483 | ₹38,287 Cr | 100% | ₹7,578 Cr |
Source: AMFI SIF Monthly Report, September 2026. Shares are our calculation from AMFI's figures. Debt-oriented SIF strategies (Debt Long-Short, Sectoral Debt Long-Short) show no schemes or assets.
Hybrid Long-Short is by far the largest strategy: 11 schemes holding nearly two-thirds of all SIF assets. Equity-oriented strategies together are 20 schemes and ₹11,874 crore. No debt-oriented SIF had launched by the end of September, so for now the SIF universe is a choice between equity-oriented and hybrid strategies. For what each strategy does, see our SIF introduction.
Who Is Investing: Folios and Ticket Size
AMFI reports folios, not unique investors, so one person in several strategies counts several times. Dividing net assets by folios still gives a rough sense of the typical position, and it includes whatever gains or losses the folio has had since investing:
- All SIFs: about ₹24.5 lakh per folio.
- Hybrid Long-Short: about ₹41 lakh per folio.
- Equity Long-Short and Ex-Top 100: about ₹14 lakh per folio each.
- Active Asset Allocator: about ₹18 lakh per folio.
Our calculation from AMFI's September 2026 SIF report (net assets divided by folios). Indicative only: folios are not investors, and the SEBI minimum of ₹10 lakh applies per investor per AMC across strategies, not per scheme.
The pattern is that hybrid folios are much larger than equity folios. AMFI's data shows the gap but not the reason for it. For whether the ₹10 lakh minimum suits your portfolio, see Is the ₹10 Lakh SIF Minimum Worth It?
September 2026: Flows in a Falling Market
AMFI's September monthly note records equity markets falling, with the Nifty 50 TRI down 6.0%, foreign investors net sellers and domestic institutions supporting the market. Against that backdrop, AMFI's SIF numbers show:
- Total net inflow: ₹7,578 crore, against ₹7,699 crore in August. Essentially flat.
- Redemptions: ₹751 crore against ₹8,329 crore mobilised, about 9% (9.2% in equity-oriented, 8.9% in hybrid).
- Equity-oriented net inflow: ₹2,404 crore, down about 21% from ₹3,029 crore in August.
- Hybrid net inflow: ₹5,174 crore, up about 11% from ₹4,670 crore.
- New launches: one new equity-oriented strategy mobilised ₹377 crore.

In aggregate, investors did not rush out. Money kept coming in, with a tilt away from equity-oriented strategies toward hybrid ones.
A back-of-envelope check, not a return
Assets rose ₹7,112 crore in September (₹31,175 crore to ₹38,287 crore) while net inflows were ₹7,578 crore. The roughly ₹466 crore gap is the combined effect of market movement and timing, equal to about -1.5% of August's assets. That is a very rough indicator for the whole category, which is about 69% hybrid, set against a Nifty 50 TRI fall of 6.0%. It is not a return: inflows arrive during the month and the strategy mix is changing. Scheme returns have to come from NAVs.
How to Check a SIF's Returns and Costs Yourself
AMFI's monthly SIF data covers assets, folios and flows, not returns. For a scheme's actual performance and cost, AMFI's SIF section has the official sources:
- NAV History (amfiindia.com, SIF section): pick the scheme and the exact dates you want, then calculate the return between them.
- TER of SIF: the total expense ratio for each scheme, by plan. Compare Direct with Direct and Regular with Regular.
- Investment Strategy Details: the strategy information document for each scheme, with its mandate, risks and redemption terms.
- Disclosure of Risk Parameters: the risk measures the AMC is required to disclose.
Two cautions when comparing. Schemes launched on different dates have seen different markets, so compare over the same window where possible, and returns over a few months should not be annualised. With most schemes under a year old and the category having been through only a couple of sharp falls, a league table of returns says little about which strategy will hold up over a full cycle. Our August performance comparison explains how to read early numbers.

SIFs are being talked about more, and tips in groups tend to quote a single return number. Before acting on one:
- Which return is it? Since launch, annualised, or one month? A big since-launch number over three months is not the same as that figure a year.
- Which plan and which date? Direct and Regular differ, and NAVs move daily. Ask for the as-of date and check it on AMFI.
- Which strategy? Equity long-short, Ex-Top 100, hybrid and active asset allocator carry very different risk, even though all are "SIFs".
- What does it cost? Check the TER on AMFI's TER of SIF page.
- How do I get out? Check whether redemption is daily, weekly or interval-based in the strategy document.
- How is it taxed? Equity-oriented and debt-oriented SIFs are taxed differently, and hybrids depend on actual allocation. See our SIF taxation guide.
- What does it add to what I own? A SIF's long book can overlap heavily with your mutual funds. See Do SIFs Overlap With Your Mutual Funds?
